Heath Ohio

Heath was incorporated as a city in 1965 and is home to about 8,900 residents. Centrally located in Licking County, Ohio 79 runs through town, with Interstate 70 a couple miles south.

The Central Ohio Aerospace and Technology Center, site of the former Newark Air Force Base, is home to several top aerospace and defense companies, including the Boeing Co. In 2007, Samuel Manu-Tech joined the park, which is owned and operated by the Heath-Newark-Licking County Port Authority.

A number of shopping venues are available in the city, including Indian Mound Mall, 771 S. 30th St., Southgate Shopping Center on Hebron Road (Ohio 79) and Cross Creek Plaza (Hebron Road across from Kroger). Wal-Mart expanded into a Supercenter at Cross Creek, where a new strip center building was added near Central Parkway.

Several prominent national retailers and restaurants have stores in Heath, including Wal-Mart, Lowe’s Home Improvement, Buffalo Wild Wings, Olive Garden, Best Buy and Red Lobster.

The Greater Licking County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau moved to the Great Circle Earthworks museum on Ohio 79 early in 2008. Oak Tree Center strip mall opened on 30th Street in 2007, and includes a new health care facility, photography studio and scrapbooking store.

The Heath City Water Park features a diving tank, Olympic pool, four slides, a 660-foot lazy river and a 5,500-square-foot water playground. The facility also includes basketball courts, a playground and shaded shelters.

The city is home to the Davis-Shai House, built in 1861, which serves as a center for cultural events and gatherings.
