Hanover Ohio
Near Marne, just off of Ohio 16 and Ohio 657, the village of Hanover, in eastern Licking County’s Hanover Township, is home to about 1,000 residents. Linked to the Ohio Central Bike Trail, Hanover was incorporated in 1873. Hanover Township was organized much earlier. The western portion of the village is in Madison Township.
In 1800, David Galbreath and Thomas Elmes acquired the land as part of 4,000 acres they earned for their service in the Revolutionary War.
Hanover is home to Licking Valley High School, whose Panthers play in the Mid-State League-Ohio Division. Panther fans are known for devoted dedication to their high school athletes and often form caravans to travel to away football games.
The village completed a new wastewater treatment plant in 2007 and in November 2008, completed a project to pave every road in the village.
The Longaberger Golf Club is east of the village, where a brick building built in 1802 by early settlers Chester Wells and John Hollister still stands. The Village Events Center hosts bluegrass, gospel and country concerts.
The village is close to the historic Black Hand Gorge, an area of sacred Native American land. The 970 acres making up the gorge feature hiking, a bike trail and old locks of the Ohio and Erie canals.
